Thirty-one students at the College of Medicine at King Saud University of Saudi Arabia came to AMC to be part of a four-week training program from May 22 to June 16. They were assigned to 14 departments, including the cardiology division, observing operations, and learning advanced medical skills.

A welcoming ceremony and orientation for the training program was held in the grand auditorium (6F, East Building) on May 22. Vice President and Chief Education Officer of AMC Kim Jae-joong said, “Ten physicians from Saudi Arabia who are currently being trained in AMC as fellows will give advice and share their experience with you. We will help you cope well with difficulties associated with cultural differences during your stay in AMC.” Director of Asan Medical International (AMI) Kim Young-tak introduced how the exchange program between the two medical institutions has been carried out and welcomed them to become new members of Asan Alumni.

The training program for the students from the College of Medicine at King Saud University began in 2014. The agreement for a medical training program was made in 2014, as a medical education director and clinical directors of the College of Medicine at King Saud University visited AMC in 2010 and highly praised the institution for its excellence in medical skills. Since then, the numbers of exchange students have been three in 2013, 27 in 2014, and 30 in 2016, and the fourth team arrived this year. The training expenses were covered entirely by the College of Medicine at King Saud University.

The College of Medicine at King Saud University was the first medical school in Saudi Arabia that ranked 159th in the medicine and life science category of the World University Rankings 2013 published by the Times. Around 4,000 graduates from the medical school have moved into Europe and Asia beyond the Middle East to become widely recognized physicians.
