The Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery performs liver, biliary tract, bladder, pancreas, and pediatric liver transplantations and surgeries of benign and malignant tumors.

We have unrivaled medical skills and experience in pancreas transplantation and has been actively engaged in transplant of pancreatic islet cell these days.

We perform pancreatoduodenectomy, hilar choangiocellular carcinoma, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

The 100th laparoscopic surgery of pancreaticobiliary malignancy was performed in 2012 instead of open surgery, which is considered the most sophisticated surgery.

The head of the pancreas is situated deep among other organs in the body, so laparoscopic surgery is far easier to access than open surgery. It leaves large-sized surgical wound and often causes pain and postoperative complications.

Besides, open surgery has risks of broad resection accompanied by excessive bleeding, combined reconstruction, long operation time, and high mortality. We minimized these risks by adopting laparoscopic surgery and improved patient satisfaction with reduced operation wound and pain due to minimum incision.

For pancreaticobiliary malignancy such as early-stage pancreas cancer and biliary tract cancer which is complicated to be treated with open surgery, we not only laid the foundation for laparoscopic surgery, but also proved its safety and excellence by demonstrating fast recovery and reduced pain and scar.
