The Asan Foundation awarded scholarships worth 50 billion won to 1,240 ASAN Scholarship students for 2020. They included 40 graduate students of medical sciences, 700 undergraduate students, and 500 high school students.
Graduate students—including 30 domestic students and 10 overseas students—were selected to support excellent students who will lead the field of medical sciences.. It is worth noting that the undergraduate students will receive full tuition until graduation. Recipients include 178 students who got the Academic Scholarship, 169 students—who would have had to quit studies because of financial difficulties—who got the Narae Scholarship, 41 students who got the Dasom Scholarship and have devoted themselves to their studies despite physical disabilities, 82 students who got the Talent Donation Scholarship and share their knowledge and talents with the underprivileged people, and 230 students who got the MIU Scholarship that is awarded to children of men in uniform such as soldiers, the police, firefighters, and maritime police to encourage and inspire those providing public safety. Each of the 210 students who received the Narae and Dasom scholarships was given an additional 200,000 won as living allowance. An additional 500 students were selected for the E-learning Scholarship, which supports high school students from low-income families with tuition and educational materials.
The Asan Foundation has provided various scholarships since its establishment in 1977, and a total of 4 billion won has been awarded to 34,000 students. The scholarship award ceremony that is attended by more than 250 scholarship students and parents is held every year, but this time it was substituted with a simply delivery of the certificates to seven representatives because of the spread of COVID-19.
