Asan Medical Center, a global hospital treating 20,000 critically ill international patients annually, is at the forefront of remote medical consultations by launching an AI-integrated platform. This innovative system allows international patients to complete registration, submit medical data, receive pre-consultations, and access telemedicine all through a single website.
The platform incorporates AI functions, automatically translating medical data uploaded by international patients. Medical data registered on the platform is seamlessly integrated with AMIS (Asan Medical Center Medical Information System), which facilitates systematic data management.
With the establishment of South Korea’s first integrated medical platform, critically ill international patients who cannot receive treatment for conditions such as cancer and organ transplantation in their home countries are expected to access Asan Medical Center more conveniently and receive high-quality medical care.
Asan Medical Center has been providing remote medical consultations for international patients since 2021. To provide optimized treatment, Asan Medical Center provides written medical opinions after reviewing and interpreting local diagnostic images or collaborates with local medical professionals via telemedicine to accurately check the patient’s condition and provide a tailored treatment plan.
Over the past five years, Asan Medical Center has conducted 866 remote medical consultations across 57 countries, primarily treating patients with severe conditions such as liver cancer, cirrhosis, brain tumors, pancreatic cancer, and lung diseases.
Dealing with patients from all over the world raised challenges due to language barriers and the diverse communication methods used for pre-consultation requests, such as email and messenger. For this reason, managing data efficiently was challenging, posing a risk of personal information leakage.
To address these issues and provide faster and more convenient medical services, the International Healthcare Center at Asan Medical Center has launched an integrated medical platform, enabling everything from registration and data submission to pre-consultation and telemedicine through a single website.
Any international patient can access the Asan Medical Center website and easily upload descriptions of their symptoms, photos or videos of the affected area taken by themselves, opinions from local medical professionals, and diagnostic data such as CT or MRI results. The platform supports automatic translation in eight languages, including English, Russian, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Mongolian, allowing patients to conveniently submit information in their native language.
Next, the medical staff and coordinators at the International Healthcare Center review the case and conduct a pre-consultation session before connecting the patient with the most suitable medical department. Patients can receive telemedicine through the platform and check their treatment plans before visiting Asan Medical Center in person, improving the treatment efficiency.

Additionally, Asan Medical Center continues to manage the progress of critically ill patients even after they return to their home countries by providing remote health management, consultations, and educational support. Patients can view their treatment progress in real-time on the website.
The platform also allows medical staff to provide efficient care. The integrated medical platform for international patients is safely linked with AMIS ensuring no patient treatment records are omitted. AI functions integrated into the platform are expected to improve the efficiency of data verification and management tasks, such as patient identity verification, automatic conversion of images and videos, and automatic arrangement of diagnostic data that previously required manual processing.
Professor In-Ho Jeon, Director of Asan Medical International and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, stated, “The medical experience and know-how accumulated at Asan Medical Center are gaining domestic and international attention. We will further solidify our reputation as a global hospital and lead the global healthcare industry through the establishment of the integrated medical platform for international patients.”
In 2024 alone, Asan Medical Center was visited by 19,482 foreign patients. By country, the United States (26%), the United Arab Emirates (15%), and Mongolia (14%) were the most common. Additionally, visits from international medical professionals continue to be steady. Over the past decade, more than 3,500 from 88 countries, including the U.S., China, Mongolia, and Saudi Arabia, have visited Asan Medical Center to learn advanced medical techniques and the latest medical knowledge.
Asan Medical Center was ranked 25th in the World’s Best Hospitals 2025 by Newsweek, the U.S.-based news magazine, the highest ranking among South Korean hospitals. It also ranked 3rd in Endocrinology, 4th in Gastroenterology, and 5th in Oncology and Urology in the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2025. Asan Medical Center is the only hospital in South Korea to have four clinical specialties in the top five worldwide, placing it among the top five hospitals globally.
