Ocean tides exhibition cools the summer nights in AMC
Summertime ocean theme exhibition gives a lift to patients
and their families unable to go on summer getaways

Day after day, the heat wave continues. This summer, even if they are unable to go on a summer beach getaway
because of medical treatments, patients and their caregivers can experience the cool refreshing atmosphere of the
summertime seaside through an exhibition being held in the gallery. The exhibition, entitled �쏝eyond the Sea,��
continues through August 31.

Sixteen member artists from an art organization called Korea Soul Art Project (KSAP) were involved in creating
the summer art installation. Lead artist Goo-Won Kang explained how the exhibit was put together. �쏷he hospital
proposed an exhibition with an ocean theme for patients to enjoy during the summer. The artists got together,
and after we deliberated, 16 artists agreed to create works of art in both three-dimensional and flat formats for
what we considered a �쁬eaningful exhibition.' The artists worked separately on their individual tasks and met twice
a week for collaborative work for about five months, so it was not an easy process. But the positive response
from the patients and their caregivers seems to wipe away all memory of those tough times. The concept of the
exhibition is that the space of the hospital and the symbolic representation of the sea express the notions of dreams
and longing, and hope," he said. Since its opening in 1996, the gallery has held more than 40 exhibitions annually
in a wide variety of art genres, including paintings and drawings, sculpture, and ceramics, bringing the uplifting
touch of artwork to patients, caregivers, and visitors.
