Why should you receive treatment
for infertility in AMC?

Infertility is a condition in which a couple has difficulty becoming pregnant for at least a year despite having regular intercourse without contraception. Main causes are believed to be both female and male factors. Female factors include problems of the fallopian tubes and abdominal cavity, the uterus and the cervix, and ovulatory disorders. Male factors include azoospermia and oligoasthenozoospermia. Infertility may occur due to combined factors, but also due to an unknown cause.

Treatment options

  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

    Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a process where the male’s sperm is artificially placed inside the woman’s uterus at the time of ovulation to facilitate fertilization. Sometimes, superovulation is stimulated to produce multiple mature follicles. There are two types of IUI’s. The first is artificial insemination by the husband’s (AIH) semen. The second is artificial insemination by a donor (AID), which is used as an alternative option when sperm donation is not possible by the husband.

    Procedures

    • Collect sperm near the time of the woman’s ovulation
    • Separate and enhance healthy sperm from the collected sample
    • Inseminate the separated sperm directly into the woman’s uterus cavity.
  • In vitro fertilization–embryo transfer (IVF-ET)

    In vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) is a procedure where the eggs are retrieved before ovulation, fertilized with sperm in vitro, and cultured and then developed embryos are transferred into the uterine cavity through the cervix, and occasionally surgically. This is the option for couples with tubal/peritoneal problems and/or male factor for obtaining.

    Procedures

    • Controlled ovarian stimulation was done using various protocols for obtaining multiple eggs
    • Ultrasound examination is performed for serial monitoring of follicular development during controlled ovarian stimulation.
    • Follicular maturation is induced and ovarian follicles are aspirated for egg retrieval under the transvagianl or occasionally transabdominal ultrasound guidance.
    • The eggs are placed in a special media and cultured in an incubator until insemination.
    • Sperm are obtained and mature eggs are fertilized with prepared sperm. If the quality of sperm or egg is poor, the intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) procedure is used to aid in fertilization.
    • Embryos are cultured in an IVF incubator for 2-6 days and monitored to make sure that a healthy embryo develops.
    • Embryo(s) is transferred into the woman’s uterine cavity using a special catheter.
  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

    A procedure that injects the sperm into the oocyte ooplasm by micromanipulation

    Preimplantation genetic diagnosis for couples who are likely to have a baby with genetic disorders due to habitual abortion caused by chromosome abnormality or genomic abnormalities

    • AEST (Aspiration with Ethanol Sclerotherapy for endometrioma)
    • HATOFS (Hydrosalpinx Aspiration and Tubal occlusion with Fibrin Sealant)
