Bone & Soft Tissue Sarcoma Center
A bone and soft tissue sarcoma is an uncommon tumor that accounts for 1% of overall cancers in adults.
Despite its low incidence, this disease has more than 500 kinds of various histological subtypes. A bone and soft tissue sarcoma rarely occurs, but it has a broad range of types and their different characteristics, so it is difficult to make an accurate diagnosis. Also tumors do not show uniform response to surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, which makes it hard to predict treatment results. Moreover, different treatment options are applied depending on the location of a tumor, a patient’s age, and general conditions.
Since bone and soft tissue sarcomas may occur in all parts of the body, it is difficult to obtain basic statistical data of their incidence or survival rates. For effective treatment, accurate diagnosis along with combined use of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are needed.
AMC Bone & Soft Tissue Sarcoma Center has a collaboration system that allows specialists of the departments of orthopedic surgery, oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and radiology with sufficient clinical experience and expertise to discuss together on how to decide the best treatment option for each patient. Patients who receive such specialized treatment would have better understanding of their treatment process, increasing patient satisfaction. Recently a growing number of patients who were diagnosed in other hospitals have visited AMC for treatment.
