Biomedical Engineering

The AMC Department of Biomedical Engineering plays an important role in AMC's practice of medicine.

The department is responsible for the maintenance and servicing (troubleshooting, safety checks, preventive maintenance, and service contracting) of various biomedical equipments used in AMC, carrying out technical reviews before adopting new equipment, the management of equipment parts and supplies, and user training.

The Seamless operation of medical equipments is critical in providing optimum treatment and patient care. This is why we focus on preventive maintenance and have any possible problems taken care of before they affect the quality of our patient care.

The department also hosts seminars and education programs on efficient equipment use and management of equipment, and also presents creative ideas in conferences.

Research Activities

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is actively involved in researches regarding biomedical equipments.
The department is participating in a number of government-sponsored projects and joint researches with the Asan Institute for Life Sciences. In addition, the department provides support to School of Medicine at University of Ulsan in various research and development projects.

Notable Achievements

  • Development of implantable neural electrode system (MEST project, June 2008 - present)
  • Emergency treatment system for older patients (SMBA Technology Innovation project, August 2008 - July 2010)
  • Development of diagnosis and treatment system for patients with deglutition (SMBA Technology Innovation project, October 2007 - September 2009)
  • Development of implantable neural electrode system(MEST project, June 2008 - present)

Participation in R&D Projects

The role of biomedical engineering in medicine is becoming ever more important than ever. With the rapid advancement of biomedical technology, cutting-edge equipments are essential in clinical medicine. Biomedical engineering provides a critical edge for the development of new drugs and treatment methods, as well as fundamental research of medicine.

In response to this trend, the AMC Department of Biomedical Engineering is actively participating in joint researches with specialists in multiple disciplines.

Another focus of the department is the development of new materials to be used in treatments. As a major participant of the Committee for Development of Korean Biomedical Equipments, AMC is leading the research and development of new materials and equipments.
