The Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics was established in September 2004 as an independent department within Asan Medical Center (AMC).
Building on the program that began at Asan Medical Center in September 2004, a graduate courses was also have been offered by the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Ulsan College of Medicine in March 2005. The department provides education in clinical pharmacology not only for residents but also for undergraduate and graduate students. It conducts clinical trials involving healthy volunteers and performs essential analyses for new drug development, including non-compartmental pharmacokinetic analysis and pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) modeling. The department also provides personalized medication consultations through Target Concentration Intervention (TCI) for patients at AMC.
Despite its short history, the department has achieved significant achievements. AMC was designated as a regional clinical trial center in 2006 and selected as a global leading clinical trial center in 2012, which greatly expanded its clinical trial infrastructure. The department continuously strives to implement and contribute clinical pharmacological expertise in the drug development process, particularly in human predictions based on nonclinical data.
