The Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Section at AMC Department of Orthopedic Surgery is a leading center for the treatment of congenital, traumatic, and degenerative conditions affecting the upper limbs. Under the leadership of Professors Jae Kwang Kim and Young Ho Shin, the section is internationally recognized for its expertise in congenital hand deformity correction, peripheral nerve and brachial plexus reconstruction, and comprehensive care for upper limb trauma.

Our team provides advanced microsurgical treatments for congenital anomalies, such as polydactyly and syndactyly, achieving excellent functional outcomes. As the only center in Korea operating a dedicated Brachial Plexus Injury Clinic, we manage complex obstetric and traumatic nerve injuries using advanced microsurgical techniques.

The section is active in research on nerve regeneration biomaterials, congenital anomalies, and the application of 3D-printed implants and planning tools to improve surgical precision, as well as studies on general hand disorders.

Committed to multidisciplinary care, our section collaborates closely with departments of rehabilitation medicine, neurology, plastic surgery, and radiology to provide personalized, optimized treatment for every patient. We also serve as a major training center for hand surgery, hosting fellows and observers from around the world.

With a strong academic foundation and an extensive publication record, the Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Section remains dedicated to clinical excellence, surgical innovation, and enhancing quality of life for patients with complex upper limb conditions.
