The Knee Joint Section at AMC Department of Orthopedic Surgery stands at the forefront of knee care in Asia, renowned for managing a wide spectrum of complex knee conditions. Our faculty has extensive expertise in joint preservation, meniscal and ligament procedures, osteotomies, and total knee arthroplasty. Our commitment to clinical excellence was recognized with a No. 2 ranking in the 'Knee Surgery & Knee Replacement' category of Newsweek’s Asia’s Top Private Hospitals 2025. Our team is recognized for delivering precise, safe, and effective care tailored to each patient, ranging from early-stage cartilage injuries to advanced degenerative joint disease. We manage a high volume of complex cases, including revision joint replacements, intricate deformity corrections, and meniscal allograft transplantation.

For the past 20 years, we have proudly hosted the Asan Meniscus & Osteotomy Symposium, recognized as Korea’s most academically in-depth forum on joint preservation. True to its name, our team places particular emphasis on joint-preserving procedures. In the field of meniscal allograft transplantation, we are internationally recognized for our high surgical volume and have made significant contributions to the global body of knowledge through numerous publications in leading journals. In addition, we actively perform realignment osteotomies as a means of preserving the native joint. By adhering to precise and consistent surgical techniques, we have achieved excellent long-term outcomes in this area as well.

Our team also has extensive experience in sports medicine, managing a wide spectrum of conditions, from multiligament knee injuries and revision ligament reconstructions to complex cases of patellar dislocation. With the largest clinical practice in Korea for these challenging pathologies, we have become a referral center for patients with complex knee disorders requiring advanced surgical expertise. In knee arthroplasty, our surgical approach is guided by principles that promote rapid recovery through Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols while ensuring long-term joint survivorship. By integrating evidence-based perioperative care with meticulous surgical techniques, we aim to minimize early complications and facilitate early mobilization. At the same time, our commitment to long-term follow-up enables rigorous outcome monitoring and validates the durability of our treatment strategies. With over 300 peer-reviewed publications, active international collaborations, and a strong presence in global knee societies, the Knee Joint Section is dedicated to clinical innovation, academic excellence, and restoring mobility and quality of life to patients with knee disorders.
