What is Theranostics?
At the Theranostics Center, we are at the forefront of advancing the diagnosis and treatment of neuroendocrine tumors and prostate cancer. Our mission extends to developing innovative treatment methods to improve care for patients with various challenging cancers.
Theranostics, a blend of ‘Therapy’ and ‘Diagnosis’, represents a forward-looking approach in medicine that offers personalized care, uniquely tailored to the individual characteristics of each patient.
Theranostics is widely applied in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, especially in the field of nuclear medicine. It involves the use of radiopharmaceuticals, which are selectively absorbed by tumors, allowing for targeted imaging diagnosis and treatment based on the characteristics of the tumor.
At Asan Medical Center, we have embraced cutting-edge diagnostic methods, such as the ‘Ga-68 DOTATOC PET/CT’ for neuroendocrine tumors, and have effectively implemented ‘Lu-177 DOTATATE’ treatment, also known as PRRT (Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy), which is now actively being applied. These innovations are a testament to our commitment to excellence in patient care. Furthermore, we have introduced the personalized imaging technique for prostate cancer, ‘Ga-68 PSMA-11 PET/CT,’ as well as the targeted therapy ‘Lu-177 PSMA-617’ for prostate cancer treatment. We are also actively engaged in clinical trials, exploring and contributing to the development of new theranostic treatments.
