The eye is a truly remarkable organ. Despite measuring only 24 mm in diameter, weighing just 7.5 g, and occupying a volume of 6.5 cc, it requires the highest blood flow and energy consumption per unit weight in the body. It represents a microcosm where the body’s essential physiological systems of circulation, neurology, and metabolism converge.
At the Department of Ophthalmology, we are dedicated to illuminating this ‘small universe’ by diagnosing, understanding, and treating a wide spectrum of eye conditions, including corneal and cataract disorders, glaucoma, retinal diseases, optic nerve pathologies, amblyopia, congenital and genetic eye conditions, as well as oculoplastic, orbital, and reconstructive conditions.

Cataract Cornea

Glaucoma section

Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
The oculoplastics team at Asan Medical Center (AMC) specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the eyelids, lacrimal (tear drainage) system, and the orbit, which is the bony cavity that surrounds the eye.
Neuro-ophthalmology
The Neuro-Ophthalmology Section at Asan Medical Center (AMC) focuses on visual disorders related to the nervous system. This includes conditions such as optic neuropathies, cranial nerve palsies, and visual field defects resulting from neurological diseases.
