Exploring the Services of AMC Laboratory Medicine

At the AMC Department of Laboratory Medicine, specialists provide 1) differential diagnosis and confirmation of patients' diseases, 2) guidance for treatment planning through assessment of disease severity and clinical progression, 3) prognosis, 4) early diagnosis or prevention of diseases through health checkups or screening tests, and 5) follow-up monitoring to evaluate treatment effectiveness. The AMC clinical laboratory is composed of:

• Clinical Chemistry : Analyzes various chemical components in various samples.
• Diagnostic Hematology : Conducts tests to measure blood cell counts, assess bleeding and thrombosis, and diagnose various blood disorders, including hematologic malignancies.
• Clinical Microbiology : Performs isolation, culture, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility and resistance testing of bacteria, viruses, and fungi to diagnose human infectious diseases, and conducts nosocomial infection surveillance and prevention activities.
• Diagnostic Immunology : Performs a variety of immune function tests, including those for autoimmune diseases and allergic diseases, as well as HLA-related tests.
• Transfusion Medicine : Performs blood typing and blood transfusion-related tests, manages and issues appropriate blood components, and is also involved in cellular therapies and therapeutic apheresis.
• Genetic Diagnostics : Performs cytogenetic testing, including chromosomal karyotyping, chromosomal microarray, and FISH, as well as molecular genetic testing, such as genetic testing for patients with hereditary diseases and tumors.

AMC clinical laboratory has participated in the College of American Pathologists (CAP) survey since 1997 and has been inspected by CAP since 1999.
