AMC Children's Hospital, Division of Pediatrics Neurology provides treatments for
children with diseases of the brain and nervous system.

The diseases and symptoms treated by the division include: epilepsy and seizure, developmental disorder, headache and neurological disorder, congenital brain malformation, and neurocutaneous syndromes (tuberous sclerosis and neurofibromatosis)

To provide accurate diagnosis and successful treatment for our patients, we are focusing on the research and development of new treatment methods and are actively involved in knowledge exchange with experts around the world.

  • If a pediatrician's examination of an infant suggests a possibility of developmental delay, the patient receives tests for more accurate diagnosis and treatment, including a neurologist's examination, K-BSID, and if necessary, MRI, electroencephalography, and blood test. Also, pediatric rehabilitation specialists and pediatric psychiatrists will also be consulted for more specialized diagnosis and treatment.
  • We provide tests for children experiencing seizures and loss of consciousness, including CT scan and electroencephalography.
If the cause cannot be determined, a 24-hour video encephalography is used on the patient to diagnose the problem and achieve a prognosis.
If the patient's problem is determined as epilepsy, medical treatment is applied for maximum result and minimal side effects.
  • For children experiencing intractable epilepsy with symptoms that do not respond to medication,
we work with a nutritionist to develop a therapy based on diet. Also, we consult with specialists in neurosurgery, neurology, pediatric neuroradiology, and nuclear medicine and perform surgery and VNS (vagus nerve stimulation)
  • We provide tests to determine the cause of headache, a common problem in children, and administer treatments to help reduce the symptoms.
  • We provide tests to determine the cause for movement disorders in children, and administer treatments to help alleviate the symptoms.
  • We provide diagnosis for neurovascular diseases in children including Moyamoya disease, and consult with pediatric neurosurgeons to administer surgical treatments.
  • For children with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy and cerebral palsy, we consult with pediatric rehabilitation specialists to assess the damage and provide proper treatment and rehabilitation program.
We track progress in fetuses and infants with congenital brain malformation and neurocutaneous syndrome to screen neurological complications and dysfunctions. If complications are presented, we provide medication and work with pediatric neurosurgeons to perform surgical procedures to alleviate the symptoms.
  • We provide accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for diseases in the peripheral nerves and muscles.
  • We provide genetic tests to screen for rare and genetic diseases such as mitochondrial disease, metabolic disorder, neurodegenerative disease, and consult with specialists in molecular genetics to provide treatment. We also consult with pediatric hematology and oncology specialists to perform bone marrow transplantations.
